Pandemic Coordination

This page provides public documents and meeting information for stakeholders during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. It includes public information for state officials and regulators, as well as the Operations Pandemic Coordination Team (OPCT), and hosts materials discussed on the weekly coronavirus update calls.

Current Status

  • PJM has decided to extend its current work-from-home posture until January 2021 because of increasing COVID-19 cases.
  • PJM’s campus will remain closed to members, stakeholders and other visitors, and PJM will continue to hold stakeholder meetings virtually until at least that time.
  • PJM continues the implementation of the three-stage (red, yellow, green) approach to mirror Pennsylvania’s phased approach. At any time, changing virus conditions may result in a return to actions and precautions implemented during prior phases.
  • Notable changes to PJM’s campuses include temperature kiosks, designated entry and exit doors, Plexiglas barriers in public areas and masks worn at work sites.

Operations Pandemic Coordination Team

The System Operations Subcommittee created this coordination team that meets periodically. Meeting materials and registration are accessible in the Operations Pandemic Coordination Team workplace. OPCT calls have been temporarily suspended as states reopen. Updates will be provided at Operating Committee and System Operations Subcommittee meetings as needed. OPCT meetings will also be held as needed in the future.

State Pandemic Updates

PJM briefs states periodically on the latest pandemic information during closed teleconferences. Public materials associated with these updates will be posted below.

Coronavirus Weekly Call

The public Coronavirus Weekly Calls are temporarily on hold as states reopen. Updates will be provided at Operating Committee meetings as needed.

Load Impacts

  • Since March 24, PJM has seen weekday peaks coming in about 10 percent – or about 9,000 MW – less than would be expected, with changes in weather accounted for.
  • Total daily energy use is down to a lesser extent, about 7.9 percent on average since March 24.
  • Weekdays continue to be impacted more than weekends for both peaks and energy.
